Literature (1)Middle Ages Literature: from V to XIV Century The historic period that goes from V to XV Century is called middle Ages. With regard to Spanish literature, it includes the first literary documents till the great ancient masterpieces that characterize the Reign of the Catholic Kings. The main examples are listed as follows:
The Renaissance With the Reign of the Catholic Kings (1479-1516), a new fundamental era starts for Spain. Some events especially marked a turning point, such as the conquest of Granada in 1492 and the end of la Reconquista; in the same year America is discovered and it is the beginning of the colonial era; in 1512 Navarra became part of Spain, permitting the country to gain its political unity. XVI Century Literature: Religious production Humanism can be defined as an actitude toward life, typical of the Renaissance mind-style. It is characterized by the interest in the ancient Greeks and Romans, by the study of their culture and literature, in order to elevate men and everything good and beautiful he created and can create. Miguel de Cervantes - El Ingenioso Hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha Cervantes was born in the highest moment of Renaissance, but at the same time, he perceived the wind of change, arriving with the Baroque and all its problems and doubts, but energy too.
Baroque The XVII Century represented in Spain one of the best period of its literature. This moment was so rich in any kind of art that it was later called: el Siglo de Oro. As far aesthetics concern, Baroque was characterized by the supremacy of form and difficult concepts instead of harmony and beauty, typical of the Renaissance way of thinking and approaching nature and life.
