World Heritage Cities

This cultural route is a summary of some of the most beautiful cities in Spain. All of them have a rich patrimonial legacy, the reason why they have been recognized by UNESCO as World Heritage Cities. These cities, unique in the world and worthy to preserve, are an excellent example of the cultural wealth of Spain, and visiting them is a must for anyone who wishes to know Spain.

Spain is the country with the most cities declared World Heritage by UNESCO in the world: Alcala de Henares, Ávila, Cáceres, Cordova, Cuenca, Ibiza, San Cristóbal de la Laguna (Tenerife), Salamanca, Santiago de Compostela, Segovia and Toledo have this title already, the reason why they formed a group in 1993 to unite and defend their interests, and to combine their efforts to preserve and improve their rich heritage.

These cities and their historical quarters are a compendium of art: Romanesque, Renaissance, Baroque, Plateresque or Neoclassical. This route has neither an end nor a beginning, since it does not follow a certain geographic line. It is a must to visit these cities, in one trip or in several, because they deserve to be seen, and because they are a unique heritage of all humanity.
