Huesca (Aragonese: Uesca; Latin: Osca) is a city in Aragon, Spain. Huesca is the capital of the Spanish province of the same name.
History
In the V century, the Visigoths entered in the Alto Aragon. The territory is occupied by most Christians. They created frontier posts and farms.
In 714, Muslims came to Huesca but the chastisements made the population flee in the higher valleys. The Franks tried to take the power in the Alto Aragon. In 833, Galindo Aznarez I entered the valley of Echo and created a military fort. He also began to come in contact with the Indigenes. A monastery is built, San Pedro de Siresa. Later, the Condado of Aragon was born. The conquests are more and more numerous, new monasteries were built as the monastery of San Juan de la Pena, San Pedro de Jaca…After the union with the kingdom of Pamplona, began the Christianization in the valleys.
After the division of the kingdom between the children, the Alto Aragon fell in the hands of Ramiro I who became the first king of Aragon. His son created the capital in Jaca. He continued to conquer but died in Huesca against the Muslims.
Pedro I conquered Huesca and it became the capital. Alfonso I won in Zaragoza. After his death, his brother Ramiro el Monje became king. After the weeding of his daughter with the Conde Ramon Berebguer IV of Barcelona, the Corona of Aragon was born.
