The autonomous community of Castile La Mancha consists of five provinces in the peninsular centre-south: Toledo, Ciudad Real, Guadalajara, Cuenca and Albacete. The name of this region comes from the fact that most of its territory corresponds with the region of La Mancha, a great plain re-conquered by the Castile kingdom from the Muslims during the Middle Ages.
