Monuments of CádizThe Cathedral The cathedral was built between 1722 and 1838, by six different architects. This also explains the different styles we can see in the building. The most recognizable styles are: Baroque, Rococo and Neoclassicism. For multiple economic crises, material used in the construction differ between, among others, marble from Genova and limestone. The fact that the towers are so high is strange because the Bourbon kings prohibited the construction of high buildings, as they would make easy targets for Spain’s enemies. The Ayuntamiento The building of the Ayuntamiento of Cádiz was built in two different styles: neoclassic, dating from 1799 and Isabellan, from 1861. The façade has an arcade of arches and columns. Like almost all buildings in Cádiz the Ayuntamiento is erected completely out of white stones, giving it the typical southern spanish look.
