Route of El Cid by bicycle

Cyclo-tourism is a growing sportive practice and an option very suited to cross great distances, while enjoying the natural landscapes of a country at the same time. The route of El Cid is a perfect example of this, mixing bicycling and nature, besides trying to emulate the route that the Castilian Knight Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar, "El Cid," made in the Middle Ages, during the days of the Spanish “Reconquista”.

The route unites Burgos, the city where the Valiant Cid was born, and Valencia, the place where he passed away. It goes through Castile and Leon, where the route crosses the provinces of Burgos and Soria, through Castile-La Mancha, with its ample forests and valleys, through the north of the Alcarria, until the path arrives at the moor. The Mountain range of Albarracin reminds us that we entered Aragon. The route crosses the Maestrazgo Mountains in Teruel, with great landscapes, like the lushness of the rivers Guadalupe and Cañada. After that, the route enters the Valencian region, where it visits the provinces of Castellon and Valencia, passes through the region Alto Palancia and the town of Segorbe, and finally arrives at the Valencian orchard, which is the end of the route. Altogether, more than 500 kilometers that remind us of the times of El Cid and his exile from the Castilian lands.

Covarrubias, Burgo de Osma, Arcos de Jalon, Teruel, Silos Monastery, the Natural Park of the Lobos river, Atienza or Medinaceli are some of the sites that will dazzle any cyclotourist that dares to take this itinerary that mixes history, art, nature and sport.
