FALLAS de SAN JOSÉ – VALENCIA

In Valencia a lot of impressive and colourful festivals with banners, marches and music are celebrated. But the main element of the festivals in Valencia is the fire in all its variants like for example fireworks. Even in the religious processions you can find folkloristic and spectacular elements.

There is one festival which is the most important in the region and combines all the mentioned features; it is called “Fallas de San José”. Four days and nights enormous constructions of carton are built-on in the streets and places, which derisively comment different themes. Fireworks and –games take place to welcome the spring. At the 19th of March, the San-José-day and the last day of the spectacle, enormous pyres are sparked according to old customs.

During the whole week folkloristic processions, in which first of all the beautiful liveries of the women sticks out, are presented, as well as dances, bullfights, huge meals and of course fireworks.
