SAN FERMÍN – PAMPLONA

The best known bullfight festival in the world is the week-long “Sanfermínes”. It is heralded on the 6th of July with the traditional cannon shot and already at the next day the main spectacle of the bull-runs (“encierro”) begins. Within this spectacle the bulls are permitted to enter the closely streets of Pamplona and masses of young people run behind the bulls until the arena, where the bullfights take place in the afternoon.

This unique and very old play about life and death impressed also the author Ernest Hemingway, who has written a lot about it. In the following days the whole town is in celebration-fever and the young men wear the typical white trousers and shirts and as well the red kerchiefs. They dance, sing and drink wine. Events, dances, processions and bulls are the main protagonists of the most exciting week in Pamplona.
