Romanesque Aragon is symbolized by the Cathedral of Jaca and the Church of San Pedro El Viejo in Huesca. Other architectonic beauties are the medieval castles like the ones in Alcañiz, Loarre, Monzon, Borja, Calatayud, or Albarracin.
San Pedro de Siresa, Santa Cruz de la Seros, Alquezar, Sos del Rey Catolico, Veruela or Tarazona are other places that should not be missed, because of their historical monuments. The capital Saragossa, on the other hand, offers some treasures like Palacio de la Lonja, the Seo or the Pilar, where the Virgin del Pilar is worshipped for the tradition that affirms that the Virgin Mary visited Apostle Saint James miraculously in this city. The celebrations of El Pilar take place every year and last nine days. From the multitudinal opening speech to the spectacular finale with fireworks by the Ebro River, brass bands, dances, parades, concerts and bullfights take place without interruption. For this reason, October is a good month to visit the Aragonese capital.
The Aragonese gastronomy offers great quality of natural products and it has preserved many of its traditional food customs, with varied dishes with meats and vegetables.
Of course, the wines should not be forgotten either. Aragon has a healthy soil with all kinds of natural products, which make up the principal support for the healthiest Mediterranean diet. The cheeses and ternasco (lamb meat) are good examples of the richness of the Aragonian gastronomy.
