Andalucia (2)

Cordova has the best mosque in Spain, which dates from the VIII century. The old Jewish district has also remained in good shape. The Roman Bridge (I century) is a great old work, and of course, it is inexcusable not to visit Medina Azahara, the old city of the once powerful caliph. Granada is without a doubt the city that has the best monument left by the Arabs in Spain: the Alhambra, the fortress-palace of the Arab kings, surrounded by exquisite gardens and fountains in ‘El Generalife’. The Cathedral and its surrounding areas deserve a visit. A stroll in the Albaicín and the Sacromonte will give you an idea of a medieval Granada, just like a ‘time travel’.

Other cities and towns that cannot be left out are Ronda, Antequera and Priego, enchanting towns where architectonic treasures of Renaissance and Baroque styles can be found. In Jaen is located a Baroque Cathedral of the XVI and XVII centuries that was the model to the ones which were built in Latin America during colonial times. In Jaen itself is located an Arab fortress, now Castle of Sta. Catherine. Ubeda and Baeza, on the other hand, have recently been catalogued as World Heritage cities for their rich architectonic legacy.
